Old Fashioned Chocolate Pie Recipe
Ingredients:
1 pre-baked pie crust
¼ cup butter
1 cup sugar
¼ cup flour
½ cup cocoa powder
2 cups milk
3 egg yolks
1 tsp vanilla extract

¼ tsp cream of tartar

PREPARATION:
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
In a bowl, mix sugar, flour, and cocoa powder. Gradually whisk the mixture into the melted butter until smooth.
Slowly add the milk, whisking constantly. Cook over medium heat for 5-7 minutes until thickened.
In a small bowl, whisk egg yolks. Add a spoonful of the hot chocolate mixture to the yolks to temper them, then whisk back into the saucepan.
Cook for 2-3 additional minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
Pour the chocolate mixture into the pre-baked pie crust.
For the meringue, beat egg whites with cream of tartar until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar while beating until stiff peaks form.
Spread meringue over the pie filling, ensuring it seals to the crust edges.
Bake for 10-12 minutes, until meringue is golden.
Cool completely before slicing and serving.
