Big Apple Donuts: A Delightful Treat

Apple fritters remind me of various moments in my life, and they are all wonderful memories! Family trips, summer fairs, a small local store close to our home that sold freshly made treats in a paper bag, and my mom who would make them for us as a special treat.

Ingredients:1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour1/4 cup of sugar2 tablespoons of baking powder1/2 teaspoon of salt1 1/2 teaspoons of cinnamon1/3 cup of milk2 eggs3 tablespoons of applesauce2 large Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples, peeled, cored, and dicedCanola oil for fryingFor the Frosting:

2 cups of powdered sugar1/4 cup of milk1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extractSteps: How to Prepare Big Apple DonutsPut cooling racks on baking sheets lined with wax paper. Set aside. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. In another bowl, mix the milk, eggs, and applesauce until well combined.Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.Fold in the diced apples. In a large pot or deep fryer, heat canola oil to 375°F (190°C).Using a large spoon or ice cream scoop, carefully drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil.Fry the fritters in batches, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes per batch.Remove the fritters with a slotted spoon and place them on the prepared cooling racks to drain excess oil.In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract to make the frosting. While the fritters are still warm, drizzle or dip them in the frosting.Allow the frosting to set before serving.

Enjoy your delicious Big Apple Donuts! Have fun!
